A small group of Antarctic tourists ventures over the permanent ice of Petermann Island. Late summer: swathes of green and red snow algae cover the usually white snow surface.
Snow algae colours the landscape green as a solitary penguin heads to sea. A red Argentine refuge hut stands sentry over the coastline.
It’s final season in blue, before it was returned to its original orange hue by the United Kingdom Antarctic Heritage Trust.
Vega Island, Weddell Sea. Named by the Swedish Antarctic Expedition after a fortuitous encounter between two of its parties.
